The Importance of Preparation Before Sleep

Everything depends on how you are going to sleep. This is the problem and it concerns everyone. An individual is often busy with his personal problems before going to bed and he has to do something to solve them. However, if, say, 10-15 minutes before going to sleep this person engages in spiritual work preparing himself to studying the Zohar, then, when such person is asleep, he aspires toward it, and when he gets up in the morning, this aspiration gets restored in him within ten- fifteen minutes. Everything depends on how one goes to bed, what he thinks about before that. This is the reason for having special texts that should be red before going to sleep.

What is, “Trust in the Lord and do good”? In the awakening below, the action of the upper one awakens. “And do them” is seemingly, “You will do them,” since in your awakening, which you do below, there is awakening above. This is why it is written, “And do good.” Also, there is no good but the righteous, Yesod de ZA, as it is written, “Say that a righteous is good.” Since you do it, this good will certainly awaken above. And then, “Dwell in the land and cultivate faith,” and it is all one, since land and faith are both Malchut.

“Zohar to People”, chapter BaHar (On Mount Sinai), par 53

One who prays and cries and cries out until he can no longer move his lips, this is a complete prayer that is in the heart. It is never returned empty, but is accepted. Great is the cry for it tears a man’s sentence from all his days. Great is the cry that governs the quality of Din above. Great is the cry that governs this world and the next world. For a cry, man inherits this world and the next world, as it is written, “Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses.”

«Zohar to People»,chapter «Shemot (Exodus)», par. 356-357.

And, thus, the work of the lower one is in making a choice, and then we can talk about a prayer. And then the Creator hears this prayer. And then the person receives the light. And the prayer always only has the place where there is hissaron. Thus, one should act on one’s own, lead by his hissaron and his faith, because one can only rise a real prayer when he sees and feels that he lacks faith to the level he is unable to receive it by himself, so that the Creator would help him, and then the Creator performs a miracle and gives him the light of faith.

And we come to love each other with great love, the spiritual love in order to please our Creator.

Everyone will literally become to his friend something like his body part, doing that completely with all his soul. And we will start negotiating and then we will connect and tie together and become one, as one man, friends forever and in everything and we will support and help and strengthen one another.

When one strengthens his heart in order to reveal the love between himself and the Creator, the Upper One installs his Shechina above him, based on the “reference” principle. It is said about this:”In every place where I will hear My name, I will come to you and bless you.” One’s desire and lack will multiply due to numerous references of the action’s essence. “The spirit draws the spirit close and brings the spirit.” This situation keeps repeating, God forbid, until the references multiply by means of desire and rise in good deeds. “Nickel by nickel joins the higher account.” It is said about that: “Here it came, and His award is with Him and He is facing his remuneration”

The one who follow right path in his work for the sake of the Creator must constantly check himself, whether he aspires to all three parts of the work (the Torah, the Creator, and Israel) equally, because the end of an action equals to its beginning.

Baal haSulam, «Fruits of Wisdom», letter 17

When one studies some issue and yearns to understand it, that yearning is called “a prayer.” This is because a prayer is a lack, meaning that one is craving what he lacks, that the Creator will satisfy his desire. The extent of the prayer is measured by the desire, since the thing that one needs most, the desire for it is greater. For according to the measure of the need, so is the measure of the yearning.
